Biogeochemistry of Trace Elements in the Rhizosphere
Original price was: $230.00.$184.00Current price is: $184.00.Add to cartThe rhizosphere in soil environments refers to the narrow zone of soil influenced by the root and exudates. Microbial populations in the rhizosphere can be 10 – 100 times larger than the populations in the bulk soil. Therefore, the rhizosphere is bathed in root exudates and microbial metabolites and the chemistry and biology at the …

Emerging Technologies in Hazardous Waste Management 8
Original price was: $99.00.$79.20Current price is: $79.20.Add to cartSeveral long-term trends in technology evolution have become apparent since these symposia began in 1989. Earlier presenters more frequently discussed treatment methods involving harsh and extensive human intervention. As the symposia have continued, the number of presentations describing extremely harsh and expensive treatment technologies have gradually been supplanted by more subtle and gentler methods. Such …

Environmental Geochemistry in Tropical and Subtropical Environments
Original price was: $249.00.$199.20Current price is: $199.20.Add to cartThree symposia on environmental geochemistry in tropical countries, held in Niter6i, Brazil (1993), in Cartagena, Colombia (1996) and in Nova Friburgo, Brazil (1999), made it very clear that tropical geochemistry is of world standard and fast increasing in multi disciplinarily and impact on important geochemical paradigms. It has additionally strong links with the economy of …

Environmental Policy Integration
Original price was: $160.00.$128.00Current price is: $128.00.Add to cartIntegrating environmental policies into the policies of all other sectors is the core European environmental policy. But there has been no thorough investigation of the political process involved. This volume provides the first. It analyses the process of policy integration – the greening of public policy – across the relevant sectors and countries. It finds …

Exchange and Transport of Air Pollutants Over Complex Terrain and the Sea
Original price was: $249.00.$199.20Current price is: $199.20.Add to cartAs the regional models required to understand and control the generation, distribution and deposition of air pollutants become more precise, the need to understand the detailed effects of hilly and mountainous terrain becomes more acute. The alpine regions and the mountainous Mediterranean coasts have large effects on the way the pollutant burden is spread in …

Experimental Rock Mechanics (Geomechanics Research)
Original price was: $240.00.$192.00Current price is: $192.00.Add to cartFracture and flow of rocks under stress and their geophysical and seismological implications raise fundamental questions in rock mechanics, particularly in the areas of tectonophysics and seismology. This text exclusively addresses the deformation and fracture of rock specimens under general triaxial compression, in which all three principal stress

Managing Forest Ecosystems: The Challenge of Climate Change
Original price was: $249.00.$199.20Current price is: $199.20.Add to cartClimate changes, particularly warming trends, have been recorded around the globe. For many countries, these changes in climate have become evident through insect epidemics (e.g., Mountain Pine Beetle epidemic in Western Canada, bark beetle in secondary spruce forests in Central Europe), water shortages and intense forest fires in the Mediterranean countries (e.g., 2005 droughts in Spain), and unusual storm activities (e.g., the 2004 South-East Asia Tsunami). Climate changes are expected to impact vegetation as manifested by changes in vegetation extent, migration of species, tree species composition, growth rates, and mortality. The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has included discussions on how forests may be impacted, and how they may be used to mitigate the impacts of changes in climate, to possibly slow the rate of change. This book provides current scientific information on the biological and economical impacts of climate changes in forest environments, as well as information on how forest management activities might mitigate these impacts, particularly through carbon sequestration. Case studies from a wide geographic range are presented. This information is beneficial to managers and researchers interested in climate change and impacts upon forest environments and economic activities. This volume, which forms part of Springer’s book series Managing Forest Ecosystems, presents state-of-the-art research results, visions and theories, as well as specific methods for sustainable forest management in changing climatic conditions.
